There's not really anything new in that article. People have always, always, always been advised to follow the owners manual recommendation. And yes, newer cars can go longer and we already know that synthetic oils can last longer, and a lot of newer vehicles are using synthetic oil. That still doesn't mean that a 3k oil change is bad. Changing your oil can never be bad, although I suppose it could be a little heavier on the pockets if it isn't necessary.
If I had a newer car with a low mileage engine, I would follow the owners manual recommendation to a T. That usually insures that the car is well cared for. |

My girlfriend has an 09 Nissan, I change the oil filter every 6 months, oil every year. Thats 10,000 miles a year on average on a 1.6L engine, using synthetic oil.
For our older cars, I change oil and oil filter every 5,000 miles in my Legend using RP synthetic oil. 3,000 mile oil changes just assure more money for the dealers and Jiffy Lube-type places. Glad the truth is reaching the general public. |

if you read the stickers on our cars, it says to change the oil every 7,500 miles (at least on g1's, not 100% if g2s say that) and oil companies say to change it every 5k miles. or less depending on weather conditions.
the 3k is from car nuts. nothing wrong with it, but you know how car nuts are
