Well depending on the angle of the stress yes but think of it like a straw stand it straight up and set something on it and it could hold significantly more weight than if you held each end of it and set something in the middle.

lol I know they are cardboard but what im worried about is the final product if the brackets are to be somewhat that thin in the end I could just see them bending. it seems like the bar needs to come into direct contact with the bracket around the strut and be welded there. maybe further bending would be required.

Yeah, I get the straw analogy. But don't these bars flex? Meaning, isn't the pressure on the bar going to be significantly up and down, not just side-to-side compression?

I'd suggest getting solid bars. I like the connection piece of metal down by the mounts. Could be a good bar in the making

The bar is hollow aluminum and only cost $28.00

I thought I would entertain this idea but if someone sees a flaw I will cut it down and go with the mounting points and style that are on the current bars on here for our cars. My car was outside at the time of the pics so excuse the messy mock up car.
Why does your engine sit higher? Do you have TYPE II heads on a 3.5 block or a custom intake manifold?

Good design - why not tie into the firewall if you're going custom anyway? Additional strength FTW!

Oh, and guys, hollow tube is stronger than solid round bar anyway...not to mention lighter.

i like it telion, but on the driverside, what r ur plans for the fuse box? since you're using its mounting location for that bracket.

might be just like with jens motor, her's sit heigher, no way my mls would fit it. maybe its the filled mounts, not letting u move the motor down a little bit to stuff the mls bar on. look at seans, his motor is being pressed down and completely hugging the bar. the motor needs to be able to move.
