Default Awoken to the sound of my alarm

My Mom opens my bedroom door at about 6:45 this morning. At first I think it's 10am and she's telling me to get up so we can go to church like usual on Sunday mornings. Instead, she tells me my car JUST got broken into.

I get up, throw a sweat jacket on and grab my keys. I go outside and find out my neighbors saw them running away. One of them gets in his car and starts circling the block. I survey the situation and see my front passenger window broken with pieces of tint hanging down. My glovebox is opened and my Ipod is missing. My double din navigation unit is gone and the center console is destroyed. My gas lid is open and so is my trunk. These mothafuckas liked to play with all the switches and levers. And glass, glass everywhere.

I take inventory. Nothing is missing from the trunk. And besides my ipod and navi unit, there wasn't anything worth pursuing except what was in my trunk. Then I notice a medium sized flat head screwdriver on the drivers side. I call the cops, it takes them 10-15 minutes to get a car out there.

The donut brains finally get out there and take a report. Took some fingerprints too. The biggest print clue is the screw driver they left behind. They probably won't find anything but it's better than nothing. My neighbor who saw the 2 of them running away from my car described them as very short and too young to drive with black hoodies on. They ran around the corner of the block and were not seen even though my Dad and my neighbor drove around for 15 minutes looking for people. My factory alarm did go off, but what probably made my alarm go off is that they decided to pop the trunk. Because when I got there all my doors were locked. I think they broke the window and jumped in given the observation of how short they were.

And here's the kicker. My parents both heard my alarm go off. They didn't recognize the sound and assumed it was another car on the street. My room is in the back of the house and I didn't hear anything while I was sleeping. Add to that, we have a surveilence camera system that was turned off because my Dad says "we were using too much electricity this month". My Dad's car was broken into a couple months ago. 2 different neighbors' cars were broken into within the last month. And about 3-4 years ago there was a rash of break ins in my hood where both my old Legend and Dad's car were broken into. Needless to say I go to sleep every night thinking someone is going to break into my baby. That includes last night, so I'm not really shocked or surprised. I could have put my car cover on and that would have probably prevented this. I just don't like to put it on when it has rained and my car is dirty, because I feel like it's rubbing dirt into the paint and also getting the inside of the cover dirty. But I guess that would have been better than a broken window, a messed up interior, and scratches on my door from shards of glass.

Oh yeah and these young bucks had the balls to put out their cigarette on my back windshield and then ditch the cigarette package next to my car with cigs still in it. Check the last 2 pics.

I wonder if you could add a glass break sensor to the OEM alarm...

Wes, I'm so sorry to hear about this. Its the worst feeling to have your car broken into and something stolen. The same thing happened to me last year, though not as bad.

I found it surprising they broke in considering the darkness of your tint. They must have been watching you for a while and noticed that you have a high end aftermarket sound system. Do you/the police think its the same group of people that broke into your dad's car a few weeks back. Check craigslist to see if anything of yours pops up over the next few weeks. Criminals aren't known to be intelligent.

Does your house have a garage or is it too small to fit the Legend?

Do you have full coverage insurance or will you have to pay for glass/tint and Nav replacement out of pocket?

Best of luck sorting this out.
