Until they can't get their WPA wireless network working, or open the MS documents they need to, or want to run full-screen flash video if they've got compiz going. Nevermind if they happen to have hardware that isn't well supported by Linux or X.

I won't disagree that it runs better with limited resources though. Personally I love linux, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend it to anyone who doesn't know what they're getting themselves into.
