Yea.. I should have seen that coming.. I was possibly thinking about going for a bare metal look, but since there's a little bondo here and there (seems like PO was deleting the rear bumper), my second choice would have to be olive drab green. I just have to find where the hell I can buy spray cans of it locally for some $7 a pop or less so I can get to work! Also, since it is stripped, this would be the time to do some rust protection to the undercarriage. Since this is a budget project, por15 is out of the question. I was thinking some sort of bed liner but not sure how well that stuff would hold up through time.

Not sure if I can pull it off since there's bondo in some spots.

This is what gave me the idea for that bare metal look.
I think this guy used diesel fuel in order to protect the metal from rust, but that only lasts so long until you have to give it another go around.

Oh sweet baby jesus.. I think I just found my home grown drab green color.

Quote:
military drab was actually semi-gloss, or more correctly "lusterless." That finish really holds up better to fading and abuse than an ultraflat rattle can.

For a really nice military look at a low cost try this home brew:

1 quart Hunter Green Gloss Rustoleum
1 quart Rusty Metal Red Primer Rustoleum
10% Acetone as thinner
Mix well

You can shoot that through a cheapie Harbor Freight spray gun and it self levels very nicely with just a touch of orange peel. The color/finish works out to be a dark leathery-olive green semi-gloss and is easily obtained at any hardware store. You can readily reproduce touch up by using pint cans in the same proportions.
10% of 2 quarts is 6.4 oz. iirc
So I'm thinking.

= Less than $40 taxes included.

I have an old but hopefully useable spray gun from harbor freight that I can possibly work with. I think this should be able to cover the whole car and then some.

Don't mind this ramble, just some notes to self..

Clean/test gun, test system: Acetone, shoot on masking paper.

Inline water trap needed.

So I spent the afternoon cleaning/practicing on the 2 spray guns I've had for some years now. They're both some no name HB specials, 1 all metal construction bottom feed gun and 1 gravity feed. If all goes well I'll be laying down some paint on the shell tomorrow! So damn nervous of how it'll come out!
