After a 3+ weeks in the body shop repairing the wifey's 94 GS (left side doors replaced) today I discovered the audio steering wheel controls are null & void. Anyone with knowledge of fixes please point me the direction, thanks in advance.

In case this is helpful for future readers of this thread, I just tried this setup and it did work. I picked up a used JVC KD-HDR30 head unit, which has RCA pre-amp outputs. Using the connector that came with the JVC head unit, an RCA patch cable and an Acura harness adapter from Walmart, I soldered together a custom harness.

Default Bose speaker

I lucked up and found an RL being parted out and got the speakers out of it. I had to keep the plug from the RL speaker and splice it into the Legend harness. Sounds awesome

Anyone have a shot of the inside of the factory bose amp? I wouldn't mind taking a crack at reworking one and having someone with a factory setup guinea pig it for me and tell me how it sounds.

That's interesting, but I sure would like to see what's under those covers. Obviously, some coils in there, but I want to see what sort of capacitors are in there and what sort of IC's it uses. However, it's promising to see it divided into four portions like that. I hope those are all monoblocks for all four corners of the car. If that's the case then we may be able to assemble entirely new units from scratch using much higher-quality components.

HOWEVER, IF those are essentially four small mono amplifiers for each corner of the car then another possible alternative would be to localize the amplifiers or rather to relocate them closer to the driver they power itself, and to stiffen the power-supply portion of the amplifiers to better control each driver.

Now, we know that it's not ideal for coils (including speaker-coils) to be in too near of a proximity to each other so we don't want them too close. The coils that do exist on-board I would probably just shield better as copper-foil inductors are too expensive. Since I can't see the boards it's impossible to tell what sort of capacitors they utilize, and whether they are using non-polarized caps in the audio stage. The inclusion of film capacitors would be great!

I still have to look under my rear set to see if the factory amp is still sitting there or not. Someone put an aftermarket deck in my car.

They are soldered to the board, I didn't remove them.

They are indeed one amp per channel. Sounds like and awful lot of trouble when the amp is so easily and cheaply bypassed in favor of a complete aftermarket unit.

Not if it results in an amplifier that sounds better than said aftermarket unit.
