you're on glue if you think it sounds better. i had everything stock for about 5 months of owning the car, i was gonna use the original amp when i put my head unit in, but got talked out of it because several shops said the bose amp blows (ha ha, get it?) so i took it out, and my system sounds so much cleaner now since it is BOSE free.

just remember bose stands for Buy Other Stereo Equipment

I didn't say it sounds better. I have no doubt that your new unit sounds better. But I think with a proper rework that the bose amplifier could sound better then lesser-expensive aftermarket amplifiers. Obviously, it's not very realistic to assume that any sort of upgrades nor refreshing is going to make the bose amp beat a Soundstream amp or something of the like, but I bet that at moderate listening levels it could sound very clean and have great sound-stage. I'd like to give it a try.

Edit: Another aspect to consider is that the bose amplifier might not get a very fair wrap since the factory speakers, while perhaps utilizing the proper impedance, does mean they are well suited to the factory amplifier nor anything resembling quality drivers. Buying new drivers which are high-quality and utilize the proper impedance could be just the upgrade a Legend could use, but it would also mean applying altered crossovers, otherwise they won't perform properly no matter how well the bose unit may be able to control them.

The factory speakers as far as I believe, are indeed tuned to the Legend's environments (the coupe and sedan's speakers and amplifiers even have different part numbers) but I think they'd benefit from a crossover system.

91-92's did not have tweeters installed, which meant the woofers handled the entire sound range, which I'm sure isn't the best sounding setup.

The last three years had four tweeters piggybacked onto the wiring in a component fashion, but lacked a true crossover, which made them more of coaxials in practice.

Yes, this is something I thought about while sitting in my '93, one day. The door pillars are just begging to be graced with tweeter pods. My old E34 (525i) has tweeter pods installed at the door pillars. In fact I still have the entire factory speaker system from an E34 in the garage and BMW speakers also run around 2-Ohms. I'll see how close the BMW tweeter pods are in shape to the Legend door pillar corners and get back to you all.

I did the amp byepass n have an aftermarket Eclipse head unit with Focal 6.5's upfront and 6x9's in the back while running the 4 ohm load. I got the GS model so got the tweeter connection available up front. Anybody know if I can connect the OEM tweeters without having any ohm load issue or do I have to add aftermarket tweeters that are 4ohm?

i took mine out, since bose runs 2ohms, i wouldnt risk it, get rid of the coaxial speakers and get component speakers. that way you wont have to worry at all.

We just had a Kenwood touchscreen put in our new GS this week to replace the Sony Cd player that was in it.. When we bought it last week the speakers all worked and sounded pretty good for the old BOSE crap.. Well we took it to Competitive Audio in Springfield this week and had the new Kenwood installed.. LOL.. They couldn't figure out why the speakers wouldn't work,, They told us they were blown and we needed to buy new speakers and $45 to install them.. Haha,, No thanx.. At least I know to bypass the AMP now.. Even though I am replacing the speakers myself here soon, I want to tell the shop why the wouldn't work. They are convinced the speakers were blown but I am certain they didn't wire it correctly or bypass the AMP. Badass new headunit and can't hear shit.. lol.

So for the audio geeks out there and OGs of the legend crew I came across some great BS today.

So to cut to the chase, it appears that the antenna assembly units have the same plug and color wires, HOWEVER I think depending on the bose system etc that it operates the antenna differently, completely opposite. I plugged in one unit and with the car off the antenna went up and that's when I noticed this.

Anyways it looks like the car as a constant ground on mine, a constant hot, and then an alternating hot to operate antenna (up)?

It's been a long day...

Ps- i did search. not to hard though

What did you unplug because the remote wire for the antenna is in the big 16 pin harness. The antenna shouldn't go up if that's not plugged in.

Sorry about resurrecting an old thread, but here's my dilemma. Over the weekend, did the digital climate control conversion and dashboard swap on my 91 L sedan. I pulled all of the DCC components out of a 91 LS sedan (including the LS dash harness) and the dashboard from my 93 parts coupe. I swapped the LS harness into the new dashboard and installed everything into my L sedan. Everything was a success until I turned my aftermarket Pioneer radio on. It powers on like before, but now, I have no sound. I'm figuring it has everything to do with 91 LS having the separate amp to power the speakers and my aftermarket audio harness being wired for my original standard Bose wiring. Something is not mating up properly.

Now, mind you, I don't have any external amps in the L. All of the rear deck and door speakers have always been powered through the Pioneer deck. I just need a ballpark place to start deciphering my audio issue. Quaraxkad to the rescue!
