Default Overheating Problem.. Reservoir getting full

my 92 legend only overheats after long trips (2-4hr drives) and the reservoir getting full but the rad getting empty. it does not leak antifreeze at all. it only starts overheating when it's stoped on neutral or P.. i have to accelerate the engine so that the temp needle goes down. then i have to pop the hoop and pour the reservoir to the rad... and that fixes it. last month i drove from Washington to LA (1200 miles one way) and it only overheated when i stoppped to put gas. then i found out that the reservoir was full and since then i have to check it after every long drive on the freeway.

does anyone know how to fix this problem?
