Kinda of like clear coat faded paint. It'll have a white hazy appearance. Sometimes it will just look like fine scratching. All depends how bad it was burned...

The picture posted above is a 335i wetsanded with 2000 grit paper followed by meguiars m105+ and meguiars d300 with a surbuf buffing pad on a griots 6 in polisher
