Hey all, i'm new to the list and to the Acura Legend cars. I actually have a 1998 TL 3.2 but best i can tell that is just later version of the Legend (longitudinal mounted motor). Anyway i'm looking to pull and replace the motor for it appears to be seized (cannot turn crank with car in neutral, timing belt off, overhead cams turn fine).
So i'm looking for any instructions on how to pull the motor. I see three ways: 1) Pull motor 2) Pull motor with transmission 3) Drop motor/trans in subframe I have a lift and engine hoist so i can do it any of the ways, but not clear on which way is best for a new person to this car. I've done a few engine/transmission replacements but still kind of new to it all. I did find a old link to removing engine and transmission, but sadly it is not active best i can tell and only view-able as a cashed page and only page 1 at that. Here is the link http://forums.acuralegend.org/engine...ion-t7612.html Anyway, i would love any suggestions and or other links to info or videos on how best to do this. Thanks in advance! I'm guessing you already know this, but the motors are in different directions from Legend to TL.....

Don't forget to pull the spark plugs before you try to turn the crank, in case there's fluid in a cylinder that has it hydro-locked.

Why is this general question in the galleries section?

yes, plugs are out, and they were gone well before i got the car. One if the issues i suspect is rust from them being left out....

That said... For both G1 and G2 Legends I always have pulled the engine and transmission together out the top. Actually every engine I have ever pulled came out the top. I didn't figure out what I felt was a safe drop out of the bottom without rigging some sort of cradle to set it into. Jonslegend and SR5guy dropped them out the bottom all the time. Coming out the top you will need a good balancer, a friend to keep the thing from banging into engine compartment stuff is always useful. rich

I did not realize that the 1st. Gen TL has a longitudinal engine. I’m guessing the 2nd gen has a sideways engine?
