Me too bigboys seemed like the least aggressive method of all the suggestions. A good polish like some mag aluminum polish after that should be able to get out all the surface scratches.

After the 0000 steel wool and wd-40 wash with dawn to remove the residue and left over pieces of steel wool off. Then use a metal polish like mother's or meguiars.

U can use a fine file smooth it out, then used 1500 n up grit in stages to polish the lip back, can be done with the tires on rim that how I did mine, u can search YouTube for videos with better instruction
