Diagnosing Antenna
I am trying to diagnose the antenna to see if its working or not. I plug it into the HU and turn on the radio but the antenna doesn't go up. I took a look at the actual antenna and it appears to be plugged in. I am not sure if that is all that is needed in order for the antenna to go up/down.
I've searched the form and cannot find any specific help. Are there any fuses that I can check or is there a way for me to directly check the antenna to see if it works? Is it simply a matter of plugging in the antenna wire into the HU for it work work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Usually, the gear toothed plastic strip that moves the mast up and down breaks. Cheap fix. You’ll need to listen in the trunk when the radio is turned on/off to hear if the motor is turning. If it is, remove and replace the mast.

I figured out that the whole antenna is broken. I manually put power to it and it was making a faint wining noise. It wasn't even trying to move haha. I was gonna replace with a rubber one but someone told me dont bother and if I wanted the radio get a regular antenna

Actually, the whiring sound you heard was the motor trying to engage the toothed mast. Remove the antenna, open the round (bottom) end and you’ll see the broken pieces of the old antenna. Remove it all and replace with a new mast from eBay. If you are able, you can feed the new mast by powering the antenna and it’ll pull it right in. Not a difficult job.

So I pulled out the motor out and its shot. The mast was busted also. I'll check to see if I can find an oem replacement or see what http://www.antennamastsrus.com/ has. Thanks for the assist.

You mean the teeth on the motor gear itself are worn/broken also? That doesn't happen often. If you just mean you took it apart and a bunch of bits fell out, that's just the mast teeth.
