Hi,
I purchased my first car last week: 1988 Legend sedan with a 5 speed and 198K mi. I wish I had gotten it a few weeks ago; then I could have made it to the VA meet. I know some stuff about cars, but I certainly a novice when it comes to car repair albeit a novice that is willing to learn. These forums have so far been awesome in helping me figure out what I need to do to get my car into shape and how to do it. I've already got a pretty long todo list. Tomorrow I'll be crossing the muffler off that list. Here are some pics: http://apenix.homeunix.com/car/P1230030.JPG http://apenix.homeunix.com/car/P1230038.JPG I'll post some better ones tomorrow when it's not dark. Here are my n00b questions so far: 1. Why are NGK spark plugs preferred so much? 2. What's a good method to take off the O2 sensors? They seem to be hard to get to. 3. Does the volume control next to the steering wheel work with after market headunits? 4. When is the next VA meet going to be? |

Welcome to the forums! +1 for the G1 crowd.
Nice looking car there ya got there. Seems to have a fairly decent exterior from what I can tell? In regards to the oxygen sensor, I managed to remove my front oxygen sensor with a 3/8 inch drive and an oxygen sensor socket. The rear oxygen sensor was rusted on really tight and I haven't bothered to mess with it recently. Also, I'm fairly sure with a bit of knowledge and some sweat you could wire it up to work with your aftermarket stereo. |

Good to have you here. The outside looks quite clean, looking forward to daylight pics.
1. Good clean spark, smoother-running, some swear they feel more power (probably due to the first two improvements) 2. You'll need a special five-sided wrench to get that off (available at most auto parts stores). 3. Nobody has yet managed to get those to work together. You might be the first! 4. Check the Meets section.

Front Rear Off black interior Engine another engine shot my gunk covered o2 sensor that turns on my check engine light: http://apenix.homeunix.com/car/o2sensor.jpg No wonder the previous owner said a/c didn't work: http://apenix.homeunix.com/car/nobelt.jpg dented fender Hole in the bumper Left my jack stand a bit too close when I jacked it down :'( Thanks for all your tips so far! (I was joking about the next VA meet since there was one two weeks ago) I'm currently having a lot of trouble taking these off: http://apenix.homeunix.com/car/exhaustbolts.jpg I've been trying to get a nut splitter on there but it doesn't want to fit. |

That would make a lot of sense. These questions do seem to be a perverse use of the welcome forum.
