Lol, my in/out gears died a while ago, luckily when my up and down died recently it was in a good spot... Anyone follow up on that group buy, or possibly a group buy for Metal ones? Anyone try 3d printing them? Lol

The most ridiculous thing happened to me with regards to the steering wheel tilt/telescope option. The "motor" seemed to have stopped working. I noticed when I started my car that the wheel didn't adjust. I took it to my local Acura dealer who quoted me $3500 to "replace the motor". I could barely keep a straight face. I left there so disappointed. Later I had gone into an appointment. When I came out to start it, the car battery was dead so I had to call AAA. Front to back they installed a new battery for me in less than an hour. As soon it was installed the mechanic asked me to get in and start it. When I stuck the key in the ignition, the steering wheel went both up and down then in and out. He explained to me that I had a dead cell in my battery and it obviously made a difference. What do you think I had to say when I went back to speak to the manager of the Acura dealer who had quoted me $3500 to fix it? I live on Maui and there is only one dealer here. Shipping anything here is a cost nightmare. Two years later it has stopped working. It's not likely a battery issue this time although there have been a few times when the overhead light in the car was left on overnight. UGH!! The reason I've shared this with all of you is, if there is only ONE frustrated Acura 3.5RL driver out there that has a battery problem they may not even be aware of yet, this could be your fix. It would make me so happy. In the meantime, I hope I don't have to ship a steering column across the ocean to have this option work on my car. I'm new. I hope I haven't broken any rules. I did read all of them. If I have I apologize. Let me know.....Aloha

Yup can happen. That's why number "1" says to reset the module by either unplugging the battery or the module.

You always want to start simple before you go spending money.

Hatch, thank you for your quick response (and your tolerance of the newbie on my first post). I will of course give #1 a try. Such as my circumstances were with the first time this happened, a dead cell in my battery, I thought that it wouldn't be completely accurate but it certainly is where I should start...again, thanks. By the way, your car is a beauty!

This might be an old thread but for those looking for an answer today. If you just want to move the steering wheel to a fix position. You can just remove the motor (the 4 phillip screws). Drop it down, remove the broken plastic gear (use a screw driver or anything, just digit out and then with a flat screw driver, turn the pivot where the plastic gear was. Put were you want it and you are done!

That would leave the center shaft free to spin so eventually your steering wheel will fall down to its lowest position.

First post remains the most viable

It's 2017 and we are still having the same problem. How has a 3D printable file not became available?

Because it's not that simple. The original is a nylon gear molded on top of a steel shaft and then two steel ends pressed into the steel shaft.

I could "possibly" get a company to replicate but price would be astronomical. We would need one hell of a group buy to get decent prices.

Any progress on creating that file in SolidWorks? I'm working with a junkyard set of gears, that are fully intact, but would like to create a machined aluminum billet option, that would never break. Am trying to scan with PolyCam at the moment, to see what can be determined. I have an '03 with 48K on it - trying to keep it in OEM condition.
