I want to hear what experts are saying over here
when it comes to what type of fuel to run on legend. I do know that legends are designed to run on premium gasoline but what if the car has higher miles and theoretically the compression would drop. Would it be better to run plus or regular fuel?

I put 89 in once to save a buck. I didn't enjoy the loss in power. 200hp isn't so many that you can afford to give any up.

Honda Engineers are the experts, random people on the internet are not. Honda Engineers say to use premium, why question it? Use premium, just like the others have said.

It is not about the price of the gas however cheaper is always better on my wallet. The question has to do with the higher mileage engine and compression drop in the chamber due to age and wear. The higher compression the higher chance of fuel to combust prematurely therefore our legends required to run on premium fuel (less combustible) . Regular fuel has a lower octane and more flammable then premium. There is nothing wrong to ask in fact always ask. That's how humanity grows as a whole. I guess to prove or disprove regular vs premium will require dyno test of the car with 300k miles on the clock or ability to read live data of ECU.

Do a compression check and see if and how much your compression has dropped.

My wife's 2016 Accord when filled up with regular gas has a reported 550 fuel range on the interstate. Newer technology has its advantages.

My bmw m3 e46 that runs on premium gets 24mpg to 29mpg on highway but I still choose legend despite its poor gas mileage as my daily driver. Back in 2016 I sold my legend and bought bmw and after several years I decided to get me a legend once more. I would like to hear what people have experience running different gas. I used to pump only premium in to my legend back in the day but lets face it it is not new anymore and premium has been recommended for a higher compression ration combustible engines. I am afraid that it is no longer up to spec due to age and wear. I am not a blind follower and would not mind asking questions. I will start experimenting most likely with driving a full tank on premium vs regular and see how it performs.

I'm guessing the G2 has a knock sensor that will retard the timing if pinging is detected.
I'm also guessing that when you run 87 octane you won't hear any pinging under normal load, but you will at the beginning of heavy acceleration, before the knock sensor has time to retard the timing. If you don't hear any pinging under normal load then it shouldn't be a problem. -Kennon |

My 91 Legend 5spd idles a little funky or rough on regular, put premium in it and the idles improves a lot, smooths right out. At least that's what I've noticed. So I always run premium.
Of course my Legend only has 88k on it, so I'm guessing the compression is probably up to standards? |
