How would I manually adjust the wheel tilt? I bought my car with the wheel stuck on the lowest setting, only retract works, and at the moment I dont care about fixing the motor, I just want it siting higher!

Thanks for taking the time to post this DIY.
However, after the nut the removed, how did you remove the "threaded plug"?
The threads are razor sharp. Unscrewing by hand with slice your skin...it cuts right through a pair of thick rubber landscaping gloves.

Try unlocking the large locking bolt on the other side with a 10mm allen first. That is the last photo in the original post on page 1. Then with the motor off, spin the broken wheel until the steering column reaches it's lowet position. then try removing that threaded plug. The first one I did came right out doing it in this order. second one I could not get out.

Definitely try relieving any pressure that might keep it binded in. Mine unscrewed by hand after giving it a tug with a plumbers wrench.

The trick was the break the plug loose by knocking it with a flathead and hammer from the inside star pattern. Both come off easily once doing that. However, the plug that covers the telescope gear does not come out completely because a part of the steering column is in the way. Whoever designed this needs to jump off a bridge. The only way may be to actually replace the the entire column.

Old Hatch, how did you get the telescope plug and gear out?

this is a great write up, I was wondering if someone can help me out. so basically my gear was broken, which caused the steering wheel to get stuck all the way up. i used this thread to fix that problem and permanently put my steering wheel in the right height . My issue now is that the forward and backward does not work, nor does it make any noises, so i was wondering if it could possibly be a fuse (if so which fuse #) or is it possibly have a broken gear as well? Please let me know and ill provide you with any info that will help me figure out the issue. Any feedback will be helpful and i thank you in advance!

IF I remember correctly the module that controls the motors is close by on the steering column. IF you unplug it for a minute then plug it back it it resets and will move again.

IF its broken it will make a noise and stop.

You want to download the service repair manual in the other threads for your car. It comes in very handy.

Are all the steering columns the same in the first gen? Mine for some reason doesn't work both up and down and in and out. I tried resetting it so I think I may just buy another used column and just swap the parts in like motor and possible gears if it is broken.
