3.5 Dyno Problems
So I don't destroy the dyno thread, I've made a separate thread.
Something is not right with my car... Best run: 197.07 HP 188.38 TQ A 3.5 should not be this low. Reminds me of Jen's (=^.^=) 5 cylinder run. I've been getting a fuel metering code off and on. I'm no expert but the Air/Fuel ratio shouldn't look like that. Using new plugs, fuel filter and the injectors have recently been serviced by WitchHunter. Type II intake/injectors/ECU Intake OBX Headers / redone Y-pipe High-Flow Cat Resonator Magnaflow muffler (it's an auto) Last edited by Gascan; 02-20-2010 at 07:31 PM. |

Jen has T2 cams. I bet that's where you're losing some power. Others can confirm or offer more insight.
Oh, you're auto. That thing is a power robbing fluid pump. I'd say those numbers look great for your setup.

I blame the M3.

MX has a point. Comparing your AT numbers to MT numbers is not an apples to apples comparison: you should be down on net power relative to a MT due to increased lost between the engine and wheels.

Drivetrain loss ftmfl. They are correct, auto tranmissions lose much more power through the drivetrain than a manual trans will. Given your mods vs what other cars similar to yours have put down in a dyno, I'd say you are shooting par for the course.

First off, go back to the dyno and have them print off your graph again with SAE correction (top right).
Lets see the new numbers and go from there. Whats up with the boost table? If theres no forced induction, that can be removed for a bigger graph. If you used a wideband, have that table made to display A/F ~Dv8

Like I said in the other thread. Maybe a better tune might help it out a bit. Check ur plugs.
But IMHO your numbers are spot on. I was just talkin about this with some else the other day. Look at the graph I posted of jen's car. Ur numbers look good. Get lighter pulleys that'll give you a few hp. What ur gaining in the 3.5 is the power down low. Look at how much more tq u have vs a 3.2. The problem with the 3.5 heads is they don't get enough air in them up top. :dunno: Tom needs to dyno his car with the cams. Also I think shaving the head down as much ad possible is a must.

Isn't there another 10-15% drivetrain loss with auto's? (I'm asking because I wasn't sure what exactly the percentage of loss was)
Hmm...Type II manifold with bolt-on's for exhaust and intake, so you've got the potential to move a lot of air with a big restriction at the cams. Seems the dyno numbers for the 3.5 hybrid with a manual were, what, 228-230whp? Subtract the cams and loss from the auto, doesn't seem too bad. |

kenso put down 228 with his 3.2 with headwork+cams, but his tq numbers where lower. also i forget how much foreva, and godfather put down with their 3.2's. cams are a problem but also the heads themselfs are a restriction also.
