Temp sensor on the passenger side top of the manifold. Sends temperature info to the ECU.

Common sensor to fail on G1s as well. Although seems even more common - and located on the head under the distributor. I've always suspected that the amount of heat and vibration generated in this area might be a culprit. Relocation on the G2 for essentially the same part seems to have a far lower failure rate.

Definitely interesting journeys with your cars... Noticed we have the same cars in the family. My 2007 Odyssey and my newly painted 1994 Red Milano Coupe Type 2. Final year for emissions :-) . I moved here from up north and now live in Buford.

With 211K on the ticker the GS tackled Georgia emissions without a hitch.

Then on the way to work today I got the dreaded battery light. I circled home and replaced it with a World Auto Parts China alternator I had on the shelf... the stinker lasted about a mile and died. This alternator has history in that I bought it brand new and it failed in 30 days but I'd had it on the shelf for over a year so I couldn't return it. Figuring it must be an easy fix for the local rebuilder I paid to have it remanufactured and the reman lasted about 10 miles. A smart man would have thrown it away, but I've not ever admitted to being of such a nature and I took it back to the reman shop to see what might have gone wrong, he rebuilt it again for free stating it was probably just a bad kit. Today the 2 time rebuilt alternator failed for its last time as I am junking it.

Lawrenceville auto electric has always done a bang up job rebuilding starters and alternators for me so I unshelved a Denso he remanufactured for me and boom, good to go. So that's 2 swapped in this afternoon.

Now the GS is happier. Here are a few pics of the teardown for those who don't know what or where an alternator is:
General direction

See it?

Ta-daaaaaa

Pull the battery and tray, top alternator mount, move some stuff, take out some bolts...

Hey! At least it was triple tested, imagine how quick it would have failed if it wasn't.

The black hole of success.

Time to sip some coffee.

In with the new. (Which failed in .5 miles)

All back together and ready for the test drive. (Which leads to failure)

Rinse and repeat and that's today for the Blk/Blk GS

Nice job. Got an alternator from Dr. Dave back in 2010 and it's still going strong. Is he still doing them?
