Default Fastest way to sell a Legend

Any of you guy buy, fix and sell Legends? How long do it typically take you to turn a car around? Just curious. Thinking about buying this decent looking sedan for 600, fixing the BHG, clean it up really nice and maybe sell it for about $1800.

Only thing is I missed my weather window. Not the greatest weather to be on the garage working on engines. But I love wrenching on legends!!

a BHG should only take u 3 days... I live in the same weather belt as you..

Day 1 Tear down > send heads to machine shop
Day 2 Prep block, clean intake manifold, Valve cover gaskets, change rad if needed, and water pump.
Day 3 Reassemble.

Shouldn't take you THAT long..

Legends dont have a high return value. If you buy it for $600 and fix the BHG, what other issues will you run into with it? You could end up very well breaking even or taking a loss with a Legend. Be wary and make sure you know all the issues with it up front. Will it need supsension or brakes? Do all the features function, is the interior in better than average condition etc.

The thing that kinda scares me is that I see Legends sitting on CL FOREVER! And I'm talking clean legends. There's one thee now in my area that's been on there since like June or July. It's like a 94 sedan all white, they initally wanted $2200 now its down to $1400. I think it may have sold b/c its not up on CL today.

Plus, I get kinda pissed when people look at my Legend and they start looking at small shit that wrong with it. I tell them its a 18 yo car, its not going to be perfect. A legend to me is a car that would be for a first time, high school kid or college kid that just needs an A to B.

I think on average I put about $500 into a legend with doing the HG, water pump, timing belt, valve seals, and rear main seal. That didnt include any suspension work or steering rack, etc. since my car didn't need it. But for the amount of work it takes to address common issues that our cars have, the profit just may not be there.

Not sure if a legend is a great car to look at for an easy type of turn around. They are pretty complex and are older now so can have a lot of little things wrong besides anything more major. Not sure it is a great first time cr for a new driver either since it could possibly nickel and dime you to death if not hit you with something major again.
A little while back, when the 90-93 accords were at about their 8-10 yr old range and worth more (and economy was better), I would occasionally pick up a clean one that may have had a few issues. I would fix them and either pass on to a relative or sell. Those cars were easier to work on and less complex so were usually an easy turn around- Especially since everyone was looking for an accord.
I recently found a 95 accord for my nephew who just got his license. I thought about a newer TL or a legend etc, but figured the accord was economical, simpler, and cheaper to maintain. He loves it

Unless it is a 6 speed, I don't think it is worth it to take the risk.

I've bought and sold a few Legends in my day. They are not good flip cars, unless they are very rare (6-speed/ blk on blk, etc). The value just isn't there anymore- neither is the demand. IMO, you are much better off flipping Integras, accords, or civics.

If you are doing it for a profit, get ready to be broke.

Right on, Marc. This type of newer, less complicated car would be a better business proposition to make a little spending money on.

I agree with you, Ari. Or possible a pristine auto GS with just a bad motor.

Aking,

Yeah, that is the scary part of flipping a car that doesnt cater to the majority of the consumer base. The Legend is the type of car that a certain group of people will take a look at or appreciate (enthusiasts). You really cant get mad at the consumer because they pointed out the flaws that they point out. An enthusiast will be the one that will appreciate the car with the little flaws and take it and make it better. They will see and ask the right questions about the car so they know what they are getting (mostly). So if you decide to dive into flipping Legends, just know you will only be targeting a small group of people. Hell, just look on this forum, there are threads right now that post ads from all over and someone will take a look and give a review of the condition of said advertised car (which is a great thing).
