Default New 1988 Acura Legend

Today I am so happy to pick up a 1988 Acura Legend base model. It's 5 speed, black leather interior, manual seat recliner, and it's still have oem BOSE sound system. This is a rare find among the legend family. Only bad thing is that it need a new motor because timing belt snapped. Can't beat that for $500.

Nice pickup! I'm thinking is gotta be at least an L given the Bose and leather. Although I've seen sums strangely pruned optioned L cars at the junk yard

Also might be worth your time to put another timing belt on just to confirm there was contact between the valves and pistons. If there wasn't (which can happen if odds are in your favor that day) then you are good to go!

If there was contact, well what do you have to lose? What's done is done.

It got me thinking too, I thought it was a L model but then again it ain't got ABS, no climate control and no information center. It has all the features the base model have like manual incline seats, manual seat belt and manual side view mirrors.

I believe the ribbed toothed on the belt has broken off and the belt is still attached, not broken The cam shaft don't rotate even the crank is moving. So this assume the ribbed tooth has fallen off the belt. I'll be putting a new belt on and see what happen when it's not raining.

Just put a new belt in today, it turns out the belt ribs by the crank was stripped off the belt. It was almost impossible. But then again, we found out the hard way. The rear bank cam bearing seized causing the belt to failed. It did started up after new belt installed, but engine locked up within 5 sec. The engine must have a clogged oil pump or ran out oil.

Or cam seized, belt broke and valves hit the piston.😁5 seconds is not long enough for lack of oil pressure to lock something up. Your engine experiences at least a second on every cold start.
