Been debating another large cruiser w/ an automatic transmission, resonably priced (less than $5000), with some nice features. I found this at a local dealer in Nashville:
![]() $2995, not a bad price for an '87 w/ 156k on the clock. looks well kept, so far. comments? suggestions? rotten veggies? |

I would personally only buy a turbo diesel Benz from that era.

I came across a 350SDL one time, but I didn't have the $3500 the guy wanted... I still want a diesel though. French-fry car FTW!

Looks great, as long as it doesn't have a blue interior.

Bad advice... the OM603 have notorious issues with cracked heads.

And blown HGs.^
But not the OM617 or OM616. Those engines don't have problems besides having lots of blow-by when they get a lot of miles. I would take a look at the ES300 in the background. |

I wouldn't. The only thing the ES300 is good for, is it's 5spd box, and quad projector headlights.

You mean ES300? The IS300 didn't have projectors. The ES300 was offered in a 5 speed in 1992 and 1993, but it still used the old 3vz-fe engine. The 1mz-fe introduced in 1994 only came with an auto. But OP, I would highly recommend an ES300. We've had one in our family for 11 years and it has not had one single thing go wrong with it. Not one. It now has 99K miles.
I don't know enough about that generation of Mercedes to say its good or not. |

These merc's cars are built like tanks. There is no question as to their reliability! Obviously, any 20+ year old car is going to have issues with its rubbers and wearable items. -Matt

I love these SECs. They are still head turners when you see them on the road. Have fun maintaining and repairing it though....
