Front brakes:
300 mm x 28 mm Brembo rotor compatible with the RL ‘99 to ‘04 (looked up for a ‘02 RL) RL brackets from Alan Jackson One of the front OEM type 2 calipers (2 piston) turned out to be no good and needed replacement. Since time was short I got a set of remanufactured RL calipers compatible for an ‘02, the older type 2 caliper was not available. I replaced the rear rotors as well with standard size Brembo. Of course pads all around. My guy insisted on spraying the calipers/brackets red. The rears had to be cleaned up with a wire grinder. We walked around the yard him showing off all the red calipers on old SUVs and pickups. His old truck also had a big smiley face visible from the back on the big universal joint at the back axel. There was a late model Mercedes sports type sedan with red calipers, so I accepted the “red” as opposed to a more subdued “black” that I was thinking of. All this was a spur of the moment thing. Turned out nice! My front type 2 calipers and brackets were returned as the core and I was left with the “new” RL brackets. |

You should have let me know. I have some nice rehabbed sets of Type II dual piston calipers available.

Since I replaced the brakes, every time I need to stop short when I’m cruising at 120+ mph my back tires lose contact with the asphalt!

Ok, I cheated on the above mentioned brake job by using type 1 front calipers because at that time I couldn’t get reman type 2 replacements (1 of the front calipers was a bit too oxidized and not working 100%).
So just got in a set of type 2 front calipers from Alan and got them swapped in today along with the new EGR valve (tired of code 12’s and the temporary fix of drowning the moving parts with lubricant spray was just that, temporary). A little touch up and another coat of red paint noted: |
