on my 88 coupe the check engine oil light comes on most of the time on the info computer, even when it is fine on the dipstick. What is the fix for this?

I have a similar problem with my 1990 sedan. Mine doesn't have the info computer, just idiot lights. The oil light occasionally starts blinking. If I turn the key off and back on, it then stays off for the rest of the trip.
This leads me to suspect the problem is with the circuit boards in the dash rather than an actual oil pressure problem. I suggest you try the same thing, when it first turns on, turn the key off and back on and see if that clears it. Doesn't solve the problem, but does add a data point. -Kennon |

From the service manual:
"The oil pressure warning light works in two ways. It will flash continuously following a momentary loss of oil pressure, or it will go on and stay on with a complete loss of oil pressure. When the engine first starts, before oil pressure rises above 29.4 kPa (0.3 kg/cm2, 4.3 psi) current flows through the oil pressure warning light and the oil pressure switch to ground. This tests the circuit. With the engine running, voltage is applied to the flasher circuit of the integrated control unit. With normal oil pressure, the oil pressure switch is open and the oil pressure warning light does not operate. If the oil pres sure switch closes momentarily (more than 0.5 seconds), but then opens again, terminal "A7" will sense ground through the switch. The integrated control unit will then provide and remove ground for the oil pressure warning light through terminal "A7". The light will flash on and off until the ignition switch is turned to "Off." If engine oil pressure falls below 137 kPa (1.4 kg/cm2, 20 psi) and does not increase, the oil pressure switch will stay closed. The oil pressure warning light will go on and stay on." |
