Default Bought a G1!

I wanted to pick up a DD that gets decent gas mileage, so I could keep my G2 garaged. My friend Henry had told me how great these 1st gen Legends are, and my mind was made up. I was on a budget and was hoping I could find something that had been well maintained, but needed some work.

Well, I came across this car on Craigslist. Its an 88' Sedan. The owners son was driving the car, and the TB snapped at a stoplight. It was towed home and the decision was made not to repair it. I will put a TB in it and check compression. If the engine is damaged, I will have to make a decision. If it isn't, I will be one happy guy!

Anyway, here's some small pics from the CL ad:

Here's the awesome part- In January of 09, the guy paid 2700$ to have his transmission fully rebuilt and replaced the motor mounts, CV joints, and rear main seal. The car also has new set of dunlap tires (they still have the dingleberries)!

Also, the guy threw in the Factory service manual, and original owners manual

It will be a few days before I can even touch the car, but I will keep you guys posted, and I will start a build thread.

I'm glad to be a part of the G1 Family!

Very cool! And you sure lucked out with the transmission being rebuilt. Looking forward to more pics.

Thanks! I figured the transmission alone was worth the price I paid for the car.

Wow, nice pick-up. I hope the timing belt brings it back to life.

if the TB fixes it you will be the luckiest G1 owner out there with plenty more miles left on it.

You know timing belts snapping isnt exactly a "good" thing. You may be looking at some costly engine repairs. Then you'll have TWO garaged Legends.

Me too! The guy was a car guy (you can kinda see his yellow 56 Chev in the first pic), so he knew what the problem was, and knew not to crank the car over at all. I guess it depends on the position of the belt when it snapped.

I'm hoping for the best, but expecting the worse. This has really been a lucky year for me, so we'll see.

Congrats Devan. And you still have both KA8's, right? Three Legends in your stable currently - that's hardcore! Keep us posted on the G1. They're really fun cars. I often miss my old '86 sedan and '88 sedan.

Engine repairs on this car aren't going to cost me squat. I've got the service manual, tons of tools, and a JY a mile from my house with 7 G1 Legends in it. Most importantly, I've got this forum packed full of knowledgeable and helpful Legend owners!
