Real Name: Wayne | Difference Between Bose 2100 and 2100 'Premium'?

I recently scavaged some parts off a clean '92 LS at a local junk yard. The center console Burlwood is perfect and while I was at it I pulled the Bose 2100. It just looked well cared for. Someone took enough care to print a label with the s/n and radio code and attached it to the bottom of the ash tray. When I installed the Burlwood in the GS I figured I'd test the radio. Plugged it in, turned the key and pressed the power button; the antenna raises and the display reads 'CODE' in nice bright clear letters! Big Giant Smile ! ! ! Entered the code and everything went blank... The question is... Since the GS and every Legend I own has the Bose 'Premium' system, is it incompatible with the 2100? Or is my 2100 I paid $15 for toast? On the up side; I bought a bunch of stuff that day off 7 Legends. When I got home and looked over the receipt the Burlwood was free, they didn't charge me for it.... Is the radio junk or just incompatible?? WW-

They use different amps and are thus incompatible. I Have a "wrong one" in my garage too

I would think that the amp wouldn't have anything to do with whether or not the HU accepts a code or not. The amp amplifies the power from the HU; it doesn't accept or reject codes from what I've read. Don't throw it away yet, Wayne. Maybe it's the wrong code. Is the serial # still on the label? We can confirm the code # first.

That sticker was put under the ashtray during PDI. The other one went on a card in the owner's manual. If the radio was warrantied then the code might now be different... but I thought you got 3 chances at the code. Even with the display out you should be able to hit auto tune and get some channels. Try that too. rich

It accepted the code. Had it been the wrong code it would ask for it again. I unplugged it and it did the same thing a second time. It's so clean, no wear on the buttons at all. Also got the antenna out of it ($13), it was in the fully down position so I assumed it worked and it does... If the radio is junk it was $15, someday therewill be another Legend in the fold I can try it out in. A little side story: Took a friend that was visiting from Italy that week with me, I had scouted the yard the day before. He is a surgeon by trade, had the time of his life. Had never been to a junk yard before, I handed him the crowbar to break into the trunk of this Legend. He was in it in a few minutes... Leave it to the Italians! The story he gets to tell his people... Goes all the way to America and gets taken to a junk yard, what a host! And getting to break into a car. WW-

I have the same issue with my original head unit in my 94 GS. The head unit worked a few months ago and now after sitting for months it showed the exact symptoms listed above. I enter the correct code, it accepts it, and the screen goes blank. The antenna goes up like normal and when I push the power button the antenna goes back down as well. If I press the power button again the screen is blank still and the antenna goes up like normal, no sound or display coming from head unit.:dunno:

Based on what you have said, the display is just not working. Try turning it on and then tuning stations with the volume up and see what happens. Hit "seek" with the volume up and see if you hear sound. If you can see the word " code" clearly, then my theory is incorrect. EDIT: in re-reading the above post #1, the "CODE" was bright. If that is the case, I'd say your radio is broken. Willman Electronics in Texas specializes in repairing them.

There is a G2 Legend Stereo FAQ that has loads on info in it. My GS was "retrofitted" by PO with the 2200 and whatever amplifier that went with it.

Maybe the PO swapped in a 2200 when the amp died? I looked behind the seat and the amp is plugged in. :dunno:
