Default Installied Passive Keyless Entry System and it’s great!

So I just finished wiring up a Directed 2102t passive keyless entry system in my 95 legend. Long story short figuring out the wiring was tricky, but after about 2 weeks of persistence it’s working flawlessly.

For those who don’t know what a PKE is, essentially the keyfob acts as a transmiter which automatically unlocks the doors as you approach the vehicle and locks them when you walk way.

Unfortunately my phone died a few days ago so I don’t have any pics atm, but I’ll get some over the weekend. If there’s enough interest I’ll might even write a DIY.

Why not just buy a normal keyless security system you ask? Well..
1. This is a much simpler and less invasive installation than most security systems (I prefer keeping things as close to OEM as possible).
2. Cost. this is $20 vs $150+ for most security systems.
3. Convinience. No need to think about even unlocking/the doors anymore.
4. You can still manually lock/unlock the doors with the fob provided.

Downsides:
1. Less ability to customise and fine tune the system.
2. Since this actively searches for your keyfob there is a minor battery drain over time. However this is mitigated as you can make the system sleep using the keyfob, so the battery won’t die if you leave your car for longer than say a month.

Also, DEI isn’t a noname cheap brand, it’s also rebranded by VIPER as the 2102v, except they sell it for $150-200! So it’s a damn bargain at this price.

For that price, I think I've got an item to add to my To Do List on the G1!

DIY would be great for the archives....
