Hello all. I just became a member of this group. I have an automatic 1991 Acura Legend L coupe in golden glow pearl with the ivory cream leather interior with 38,000 miles. My mother purchased it new in 1991, and I purchased it from her in 2003 when she purchased a new 2003 MINI Cooper. It is in great condition. I look forward to this group helping me keep this Legend in good running order, since factory parts are getting hard to find.

Welcome to the fam!

Please excuse Kennon's "welcome" as he has G1s and they sometimes like to give it to the G2 owners. Not that what he says isn't highly debated as accurate but it isn't necessarily a nice message of "welcome". Especially with the backstory you have given us on your right of passage into the Legend ownership world and your likely LOVE of your car.

I wasn't gigging you G2 people. If I owned a G2 I would want to know about the BHG issue as soon as possible, and most especially how to prevent it. You guys, particularly Sr5Guy, did fabulous detective work figuring out the cause. And since the OP's G2 has such low mileage he may have a good chance of preventing BHG.

I soooo miss my 88 Coupe. It was the most boringly enjoyable car I've ever owned as in 200k it needed so little attention and gave me so much enjoyment. The remorse in selling it to get a 91 Coupe set in very quickly.

Default On Garage floor under the engine

For several years I noticed a drop of oil on the garage floor under the engine every month or so plus I also saw a drop of black shiny plastic-like material that hardened on the garage floor also under the engine every month or so. I don't think there have been any new spots of either type the last couple of years.

The Honda dealer told me the black shiny hardened material was a seal that melts when it gets hot, and that nothing needed to be done about it.

For the oil spots on the garage floor, the Honda dealer said the crankshaft position sensor has a leak, and that they did not have the tools to fix it. They said I would have to take it to an Acura dealer.

On the internet I found that a differential has 6 seals and that you might as well replace all at the same time: diff. pinion seal between diff. and trans., right axle seal, inter. shaft o-ring, inter. shaft seal, diff. to oil pan o-ring, and speed sensor o-ring.

I also saw on the internet that Acura has hidden warranties on the bad casings (some diff. have air pockets in the casings that a new seal won't completely solve the problem.) For that reason, I have not had the seals replace.

Are either of these what Kennon is talking about? By the way, the car runs fine, does not have smoke out the exhaust or any other problem.

So is this the SAME Tom that Kevin has been chatting to me about?? I do see a Kansas address listed for him!

Nevermind! I read about NALM on my cell phone briefly after a text! Now that I'm on my computer I can see that Tom made the post about NALM. We'll see if we can "encourage" some kind of map from the same Kevin referenced above that is in Georgia and made a map that went to Phoenix in 2021!

No. Read the post.

G2's have a genetic flaw that eventually leads to Blown Head Gaskets.

But you can prevent BHG's with a specific maintenance procedure.

You're lucky in that your G2 has such low mileage you should be able to catch the problem in time to prevent BHG's.

Again, read the post.
