if its a coil pack which it usually is if you get the 1st 4 it wont hit you hard but the back 4 is where they start to hit you. when my coil pack went and it happened twice, 2 diferent of course the 2nd was 120 out the door and the other was like 150 luckily they werent in the back. if thats all it is your in great shape. just goto auto zone and let them read the code, when they give you the code let me know ive got a list and can tell you what it is if you need it. or advance auto.

also did you say what year it was, you may want to rethink it if it falls in the 97-02 area.

On the ford forum they said by no means to go to autozone after a couple of posters suggested that. That is funny. I think they said those guys jack up your system with their tester or something like that.

Yeah, I got a '97

Yeah, front/back - that is a massive engine - I could see where that would be an issue. I havent really explored it because, 1. it is MASSIVE 2. it just aint as pretty as that C32A. It's not as inviting under that hood.

As far as the code - it just straight flashes. no short flash or long pause or anything. It just flashes almost the same timing as the turn signal.

the flashing is new to me. whenevr i had the coil pack issue aside from the engine sounding like ass and stuttering, the check engine light never flashed just lite up. not sure which forum you went to but everyone has a story just like on here. personal experience i never had an issue, the 1st time i went to auto zone, then the 2nd i went to advance auto, then it just so happens there is a guy down the street that is ford cerified and he owns 3 expo's and he checked it for free just to verify.

the 97-02 thing, he was telling me that this was the last year range with a superior suspension compared to the newer years, and there were a few other things but i cant recall right now. your mention about the engine ot tearing up is also true, but there are a few out there that crap happens to. ive had my 98 since late 01 and ive been kansas city, mo to savannah, ga 4 times, not to mention all the other driving and havent had really any issues. the only reason im not driving to much right is im trying to redo the inside but this dayum legend keep calling me and i keep spending on it. id keep it if it were me, especially if its just a coil pack.

Triton 5.4L engines were known for stripping the spark plug threads out of the head. They can be heli-coil repaired, but they must be done by a professional. The coil packs are a known problem as well. I doubt it's an internal engine problem.

Just to let you know, I work on the 5.4 s almost every day for the same issue you are having. It's always either a coil pack or an injector. Occasionally it can be a spark plug, especially if anyone has put autolites in it. They are junk. Whoever said the part about Autozone scanner messing things up is an idiot. I own the same scanner they use and it is impossible to mess anything up with it. The flashing light just simply means you have a misfire. Get it scanned which will tell you which cylinder is missing. If it is the coil pack, they are $30.00 each if you have a commercial account at pep boys and it takes less than 30 minutes to replace. The injector is $65.00 and takes an hour. Also check the PCV hose where it connects on the back of the intake. This is a major pain to access but they are notorious for disintegrating and making your truck run like shit. Anyway good luck and don't sell your truck and I always recommend someone to buy an Acura.

Yeah, I just had it on the lift to get my front tie rods fix - I popped one, famous NY roads. When I took a look at the suspension my jaw dropped. Air bags in the rear and self adjusting in the front - serious business.

The gas is killing me and I really dont have the $$ and space for two cars right now. It is a road king for sure - been to charlotte a few times. I bought it in August 08 with 125 or 135 (cant remember which), but I now have 167000. If things were different, I would definately keep it, but I cannot hold onto it. A lot of people here are moving back to cars, so goes I as well.

Even though this is an Acura forum, I can count on you guys to really help. I feel a little better about it. As long as I didnt throw a rod or something deep inside. I am gonna speak to my mech, maybe I can get him to fix it for cheap, just so I can increase it's trade in value - get it right so I can still use it until I get the new ride.

Thank you guys, really. Thanks.

But as it turns out, I was able to do some serious damage to the thing:

I was checking out this '95 LS with 132,000 on it http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national and decided to go check it out in person after school today. Feeling good and cruising along, my check engine light starts flashing and I get serious vibration upon excellaration. If I keep it under 50 I am good.

I ask the guy about trade in value and he checks it out and takes it for a spin. He comes back and says, "Man, um, nice truck - but your engine is gonna need a rebuild - you got serious internal problems and it sounds like you running on less than 8 cylinders.

He was gonna give me 2000 on it at initial glance, but after he drove it, he says no go. I am gonna go see my mech and see what the deal is, but I am in the market for a car anyway. Maybe I can unload it for a grand and just live with that. (man, I should have taking that other guy up on his Truck and 2500 for the RL offer )

Does anybody think I can still get maybe 1000 for it?
You probably have just a bad ignition coil pack. A flashing CEL means that there is a multiple missfire and it stores a code P0300 in the computer. Just replace your coil packs (Should be two on the 5.4L triton) and problem should be solved. BTW, there is now F'in way that a Ford is unbreakable.

It is gonna have a P0300 for sure with a Flashing CEL. A flashing CEL on ANY OBD-II equipped Vehicle means that a multiple misfire has been detected and a code P0300 has been stored.

P0300 = Multiple Missfire
P0301 = Cyl #1 Misfire
P0302 = Cyl #2 Misfire

Etc...

Fords in general, no. But the Expedition's - nearly unbreakable. It is a beast. I mean, I see more of them - 97 to now, on the road than the Escalades/Tahoe.

But it wants more from me than I have to give right now.
