Question Front door speaker sizes!!! "6.75"

So I'm basically getting blasted about my door speakers being 6.75".

I keep getting told by another member that all G2 Legends front door speakers are 6.5".

I removed the 6.5" focals out of my old Accord and when I tried to install them in my 1994 L Sedan they were too small by 1/4". So I looked the car up on Crutchfield and they say it's 6.75". Even the car stereo FAQ says they can either be 6.5s or 6.75.

How many others have 6.75" front door speakers and what Year, Trim and # of doors do you have?

The ones in my 1994 GS were/are officially 6.75. I went with Polk Audio years ago as they made an actual 6 3/4" speaker. I do understand some of the Legends did have just a 6 1/2 but I couldn't tell you which ones. :dunno: Perhaps it was the non Bose stereo systems. I've got adapter plates for whenever I install my Diamond Components as they are just a 6 1/2.

Ive yet to see a stock 6.75" door speaker. The G2 came with 6.5" Bose speakers on all trims, the only differences were head units and whether or not they had the 4ohm or 2ohm stereo with amplifier or without amplifier. I do know that 6.75" baffle adapters fit easily in the 6.5" location, but its a complete waste as 6.75" shallow depth is a fairly obscure size.

No adaptors, this is how this car came. I bought it from Matt with the stock audio intact. Bose non-premium 8 speaker. My 6 1/2" Focals are too small.

You do realize that a 96-04 RL door speaker baffle and speaker bolts right into a G2 plug and play, correct? And those are 6.75"

I would grab my old stock speakers and measure them again had I not sold ALL my original Bose system years ago. I do know for a certainty they were 6 3/4" in size. In fact here are the direct fit no adapters needed Polk speakers I've been running for around 8 - 10 years or so.

In fact my old Crutchfield records show I bought 6 3/4" adapter plates in March 2004 and they're still in the packaging unused. I even found reviews on Crutchfield from 2005 - 2007 which seems about right for when I bought these.

Default 6.5 speakers (Rockford Fosgate) don't fit in '92L

These are 165x3 Prime speakers. There are two adapters in the door of the car as we bought it in 2001. The larger adapter has 4 screws, and the smaller adapter within that one has 3 screws. The three screws are for holes in the smaller adapter that form a 5x5x5 triangle. I measured the diameter of the speaker that was in the car at its widest point: 6 1/4 ".

The diameter of the Fosgate speakers at their widest point is 6.5", and there are plenty of attachment holes in the outer ring of these speakers.

Crutchfield and Amazon say these speakers fit in the '92L. I do not see how this is possible without some special adapter that is not indicated in the ads. I even cut away the cone shaped inner part of the smaller adapter that was in the car. The new speakers still would not fit within that adapter's outer ring.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I should not have said two adapters. It's really one plastic piece, with two screws on top and two on the bottom, offset to the right (for the driver's door. The OEM speaker sits on an inner ring that measures 6 3/16" OD, and the ID is 4 15/16".

Again, the car is a '92L, with no Bose emblem on the speaker grille, which my '94L does have.

The Rockford Fosgate speakers that I bought are 6.5" OD (metal) and they have a flange on the bottom side, under the rubber outer part of the speaker, that has a 5.5" OD.

I see that Metra and Scosche make adapter mounts, but I could not find one specifically for the '92L. Can anyone who has fitted 6.5" inch speakers into this type of car tell me which manufacturer's adaptor/mount they used? Thanks!

Are the adapters you have too small or too large for the speakers to fit? Perhaps a couple of pics would be helpful. I'm still sticking to the 6 3/4 speaker size though. My Polks are still performing BRILLIANTLY!

In the case of my 91 Coupe the L trim level has a speaker mount for different size speakers than the LS speaker mount. I have always operated under the assumption that the L trim level's speakers are different. I have not measured the diameter and actually don't remember if it was a diameter or depth issue but speakers purchased for my 94LS do not fit the 91L housing. I have just purchased the LS speaker mounts from a JY coupe and the speakers fit fine in them.

I didn't search too hard for info, but here is a thread on our stereo setups.
