Default Healthcare 20 yrs of hoping........

Most Republicans in congress grew up in an era of opportunity and support. Their parent's generation benefited from such crazy socialist programs as the GI Bill, for example. They went to great schools in working class cities. Overall a well-regulated banking and finance system lead to nearly four decades of strong economic growth. Research and support in health, science, and the arts was strong and government started tacking problems like civil rights, pollution and degradation of natural resources, and financial security for children and families.

Now Republicans, have systematically dismantled the government structure that they once enjoyed. They're serving the selfish interests of corporations and the wealthy few who control them. This BS that conservative policies are somehow best for America's professionals or small business only shows how well Republicans have fooled many Americans with populist politics.

Much of our wealth is leaking overseas along with more and more of our best jobs. And Republicans refuse to get it. Instead of seeing the economic and social destruction the party is bringing down upon us, they claim the very policies that have brought about these damaging changes are the solutions!

You cannot believe a politician supporting the GOP platform is very intelligent and sincere at the same time. As most people say, you are entitled to your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts. When will Republicans live up to their own advice?

Now the congress is ready to set up a minor heath care bill and the road blocks from the small state republicans are immense. I make great money and am product of public education and great opportunity. I also recognize the fact that some people did not have the same breaks I've been blessed with. I'm tired of the survial of the fitests crowd barking "You should have tried harder!"

P.S. kotetu you are more than welcome to comment.

.

Well, there is no doubt with the latest financial debacle, that corporations are incapable of acting in the best interest of all Americans without government oversight.

QFT. Trust me, I work for one. If a corporation is to be run along the best capitalist principles then profit > people, every single time.

Thanks for singling me out. I'm not sure why you think I support the GOP. No sir, not at all. However I don't support the Democratic party either, nor any party. I am a free thinker and I encourage other to be the same. I despise big government, socialism, the welfare state, and loss of civil liberties. I believe it is evil to take half of someone's estate because they die. I believe that you own what you make, and it shouldn't be taken from you because you made it. I believe a person is responsible for his own well being. I believe in charity and good will. Now you have a bit of a better idea of who I am, I hope.

I don't really have much to say about your post. It is mostly very typical of a person who "chooses a side" and is determined that "the other side" is to blame for whatever woes ail us. I guess the only thing that I would like to point out is that your final paragraph starts out just flat out false.

2400 pages does not a minor bill make. Just today we heard that a Democrat proposed a 767 page amendment to this bill. That would have put it right about at 3200 pages. Remember that these bills, when they become law, restrict your freedoms and define how you must behave - many laws hold the killing axe above your head in terms of penalties. For example, in this gigantic health care bill is a clause that says essentially "if you do not sign up for a government approved health insurance plan, you will be fined." And more, the fine is classified as a tax. That means the following - if you don't sign up for the insurance plan that someone tells you to sign up for, and fail to pay this "fine", you can be put in jail for tax evasion.

Indeed. How many more sneaky little clauses is this 10 inch high stack of papers lined with?

By the way, the roadblocks you mention have occurred because this enormous bill is so intrusive and wide reaching that even Democrats are not united behind it. Moderate Democrats, for example, oppose government funded abortions and early medicare buy-ins.

I guess I will leave you with this - if you're going to convince me, you should try harder. Now read my sig.
