I drove the car to the dealer asking if they could get the radio code for me.
I was told I had to take the radio out in order to get the serial numbers.
I'm surprised, I thought the dealer could get the code with the VIN and car present, without having to pull the radio out.
I didn't want to go through the hassle of pulling the radio out.

Can anyone confirm this ?
Should I go to another dealer?

Dealer is correct.

^Agreed. I think serial number is required, and some (most?) dealers require VIN as well just in case it's a stolen unit.

its pretty straight forward, remove the 2 screws in the center wood trim under the ash tray, pull up from the back by the arm rest carefully until it starts to release, work the console out. 2 more screws under the radio, and it'll slide out and expose the SN, call the dealer, get the code, make sure it works, reassemble.

I'm STILL amazed at how Honda/Acura changed things as the model years increased. My 1994 GS you have to go through this removal process. I discovered that in my 1993 LS Coupe the stereo code is on the underneath side of the engine bay fuse panel lid.

I had NEVER seen that before and due to the lack of earlier year Legends in salvage yards I've yet to see if any others have done that. I guess that would make things simpler for Acura technicians to reset the radio after servicing the vehicle. I don't imagine theft is a big problem these days with cassette players so has anyone else seen that in their Legend?

Yeah, I've seen that numerous times; also on the bottom side of the removable ash tray.

Thanks guys.
I figured the removal was going to be similar to my 1st gen. I only removed the wood paneling and saw the sticker underneath, didn't even need to pull the radio. Snapped a pic of it and got a great shot of the serial number on the first try. Called the dealer, spoke the the service guy from the last time I was there. He gave me the code.
Radio works, but no sound out the front speakers, adding to my to do list

oem they came with a card that had a what could be used as as sticker, and it was really at the owners discretion as to what to do with it.
