I have a 94 GS and 93 LS coupe and have come across the "lesser" OEM speakers as the connectors are different and the magnets are MUCH smaller than on my OEM speakers. Rich's comments on the door mount adapter plates is likely your solution as the speakers you bought sound as though you need the larger ones from the LS/GS version OR RL vehicles.

Since I have found no adaptors that are made specifically for the non-Bose speakers (mine is actually a Pioneer TS-06225, and the magnet is the same size as the brand new Rockford Fosgate I bought), and I have tried unsuccessfully to find a universal (!) adaptor that would work with the mount in our car, I am now looking at trying to mount the new speaker on the back of the existing mount, and moving that mount out from the door panel (to prevent hitting the window track), using spacers (washers, tubing, whatever) to get a good fit. Fingers crossed.

Put these speakers in your car. Rich Wheadon put me on these and I haven't been disappointed.

I suspect both actual mounting brackets mount to the door identically seeing the RL reference bracket fitting as well. My guess is whatever batch the employee (or machine) had to use that day they just put them in.

JBL does make a good speaker and the mounts on the box Kevin posted up should align up in some fashion or another. I think the Polk 6 3/4 ones I got years ago are no longer a produced model (or newer same sized model). The Polks have been AWESOME for years. It'll be a SAD day when (IF) they do die.

That was basically my theory with different words. I was saying that maybe they were using leftover parts or ran out of the 6.5" buckets for a run and used the 6.75" buckets instead.

Just so anyone with an L model car knows, these are 2ohm speakers and could make your L radio amp overheat. Some "2 ohm" speakers are actually a bit higher resistance than that and will work with 2 or 4 ohm systems... but don't just assume that is true across the board. I melted one 2200 amp down running 2 ohm Bose speakers when it should have been 4 ohm.

That actually doesn't surprise me. Without a little more research, probably achievable through one of the oem sites it's all guesswork.

Another possibility is that the L trim level has a larger speaker with a shorter throw. A little junkyard investigation could be helpful except at this age of the game we don't know what's oem and what has been swapped around in the jy.

I've found that the aftermarket speaker guides are not reliable for proper fitment.

OEM they have marks on them from when they are installed. So if another was installed the markings wouldn't line up.

On your last point, yes, the universal-type aftermarket adapters obviously do not line up. But if the sellers provide dimensions of their parts I think/hope that one can select an adapter that will do the job, probably with a bit of further "adapting." Unfortunately, some of the adapter sellers do not give all the info that you would need to make for a good fit.

I ordered a set of ring-type adapters that might work for my new speakers, and of course each speaker has its own dimensional particulars. I will post any good fit details when I get there.
